All Too Human…

You would think that for someone who grew up looking the way Kurt does, the chance to be look just like everybody else would be one of his fondest dreams…but because he did grow up looking the way he does, Kurt had long since come to terms with his uniqueness, he even revelled in it.

So when the High Evolutionary decided, for the greater good, that the subset of humanity, Homo Sapiens Superior, ie mutants, should be eliminated, by neutralising the mutant genome that grants mutants their powers, he spoke vehemently against the idea, as did many of his fellow X-Men, despite the fact that they would no longer be feared just because of who and what they were.

The High Evolutionary however, gave them no choice…

Kurt coped as well as he could…

Hank McCoy soon discovered that the means to the High Evolutionary’s ends had actually affected every living thing on the planet, forcing everything into a high-speed evolutionary process. On researching Herbert Edgar Wyndham, the man who would become the High Evolutionary, he discovered that a past acquaintance of his was also well known to the X-Men. One Nathaniel Essex…better known as Mister Sinister!

Ascertaining the source of the bio-degenerative emissions to be on a satellite orbiting the Earth, the very human X-Men set out to reverse its effects. Sinister, who has imprisoned the High Evolutionary when he hijacked his project, was amused to see them come after him, and interested in seeing how they fared without their powers.

However, something occurred that Sinister hadn’t counted on. He was immune to the effects of the emissions on the satellite, and since their arrival, so were the X-Men…their powers were returning. Storm, Wolverine and Shadowcat worked to destroy the mutation array while the remaining X-Men battled Sinister’s creations.

In the end, however, it was the High Evolutionary himself that ended his own threat, destroying his life’s work as he realised his mistake. The mutant X-factor in every mutant on Earth was reactivated…powers restored, for good or bad…
