Cerise

After his break-up with Amanda Sefton in Uncanny X-Men #204, or perhaps due to his experience with Anjulie in Excalibur #16 Kurt would remain alone for some time.

But in Excalibur #46, the alien Cerise quite literally exploded into his life…and after a brief misunderstanding, introduced herself…

Their relationship started innocently enough. Cerise knew nothing of Earth or its customs, so Kurt, being something of a misfit himself, offered to help her learn about her new home. The pair bonded quickly, becoming very close friends. Cerise’s fascination in Earthly ways often led to some amusing moments…in her naiveté she even managed to upstage the highly flirtatious Kurt in a style all her own…

But as is quite common, Kurt didn’t realise just how much she had come to mean to him until he almost lost her…(and showed the world that you really don’t want to tick him off)

Cerise herself was new to these feelings. Her people did not form emotional bonds, so she couldn’t understand just what it was she felt for Kurt…she only knew it was powerful…and that she didn’t want to be without him…

An uncertain future that would prove to be no future at all…though they were exceedingly happy in their newfound feelings…

…their time together would prove to be all too brief…

For unknown to Excalibur, Cerise had come to Earth while fleeing from a dark deed from her past…a past that caught up with her when the Starjammers arrived to take her to trial…

Excalibur followed to attempt rescue…and to learn the truth. Cerise had destroyed the ship she was serving on, condemning all on board, because her commander, C’efn, was ordering the slaughter of innocents. Though her actions could be considered noble, she still committed mutiny in the mass-murder of the crew. Even Lilandra, the Empress of the Shi’ar, and long time friend of the X-Men, could not overturn the ruling against her, though she could alter her punishment. Instead of being condemned to life on a dark prison planet, Lilandra ordered that she serve out her sentence at her side, where she could assist in the uncovering of others in the Shi’ar like C’efn, who used their positions to commit atrocities in the name of the empire…

This, of course, meant she could not return to Earth with Kurt…and so their blossoming love was destroyed before it had barely begun…

And though they were to meet up again…first at the wedding of Brian and Meggan…

…which was a little awkward due to the fact that Kurt had recently been involved with his long-time, on-again, off-again, girlfriend, Amanda Sefton…and then again, some time later, after Kurt had returned to the X-Men…

…when he was studying to be a priest…they never rekindled their romance…but they are still very good friends…
